Tornado Outbreak in Iowa Leaves Devastating Path

Eight Tornadoes Confirmed

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed at least eight tornadoes that touched down in Iowa on March 31, 2023, based on preliminary data. Among them is a low-end EF4 tornado that tracked a significant distance, leaving a trail of destruction.

EF4 Tornado Impacts

Tornadoes with an EF rating of 4 are capable of producing winds ranging from 166 to 200 mph. The EF4 tornado that hit Iowa caused widespread damage to buildings, infrastructure, and vegetation. Homes and businesses were leveled, trees were uprooted, and power lines were downed, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.

The NWS is continuing to assess the damage and determine the official ratings of the other tornadoes. Updates on the situation will be provided as more information becomes available.
